Creating a Hypotheses

The constructivist theory states that students basically use prior knowledge and build onto that. I teach English and I do not really have my students create a hypothesis in the classroom. We do a lot of critical thinking in the classroom which the students do have to use prior knowledge. In the science world, teachers have their students test a hypothesis. When the students come up with a hypothesis and  test a hypothesis they are applying their knowledge and it deepens their knowledge.
With the constructivist theory and adding technology in the picture the students become more involved in the classroom and they become active learners. Also using the constructivist theory, the teacher becomes the facilitator and guides discussion for the students to apply previous knowledge and build it onto the new knowledge.

Behaviorist Theory

The two instructional strategies for this week are "Reinforcing effort" and "Homework and Practice." It is vital that educators reinforce effort to the students to help improve achievement. I teach students with learning disabilities and somedays it is a struggle to get them motivated enough to provide the amount of effort they need to be successful. But then there are days that they come in and work efficiently and stay on task until they have completed their assignment. Some ways that will help improve students' effort are to motivate students to have the mindset that they can succeed, create a positive learning environment, and providing recognition and praise.
In my classroom, I do not provide any homework for my students to take home. The reason being is I would not get the work back the next day because the majority of my students have organizational problems and just simply will not do the work and turn it in. The practice that we do is in the classroom and that way I know that the work will be completed and turned into me. The one negative to me doing this is it doesn't let the students necessarily learn on their own to be able to apply new knowledge. But when we work on something in class if the students have any questions then I am right there to answer for them.
